ANML20 - Retro orbital sinus blood collection - Mouse

ANU ANIMAL TRAINING PROGRAM


Blood collection from the retro orbital sinus of a mouse.


This is a course designed for ANU staff and students that are required to collect specific volumes of whole blood from the mouse via the Retro-Orbital Sinus

DELIVERY: ROB takes time to perfect as a technique. Following introductory session(s) participants progress to practicing unsupervised until volume, aseptic technique and eye integrity are consistently achieved.


PREREQUISITES: Participants must have received certification in the handling and restraint of the relevant species and must have completed the Sharps Safety Training module-ANML 05.

The “Sharps Safety Module” is run in conjunction with the Intro session where required.


OBJECTIVES: On completion of this course, it is expected that participants will be able to obtain blood samples from adult laboratoy mice via the retro orbital sinus without compromising animal or persomal safety or aseptic technique.

ASSESSMENT: Competency is determined following the successful completion of a practical demonstration of techniques and eye checks at 1, 3, and 7 days post bleed.
